Search Roundup

A bit of a Roundup!

by Keiron on November 27, 2007

Much as I’ve posted a lot more recently I haven’t done a roundup of what’s popular and what’s not on this blog for sometime! For the first time rather than just using my internal stats packages I’m going to use Google Analytics for this purpose.

My most popular post over the last two months happens to be one of my most recent ones on the song “I fought the Lloyds” by Oystar, closely followed by my discussions of St Pancras, Traffic and Passion, and my new HTC Trinity / SPV M700.

Google and Yahoo are still number one delivery mechanisms into the site, but 115 visitors in the last two months have actually typed “skillett.com” into their browsers - accident, popularity or snoopers - who knows!

The top search keyword fits exactly with the top post “I fought the Lloyds“, is clearly going to be exceedingly popular in the coming six weeks as it races to head for a number one spot in the chart - now that would be fantastic wouldn’t it?

On the technology and gadgets side of things a lot of people are looking for information about the SPV m700, MyMobiler, or Orange software packages and Tariffs. People are also curious about my Pinnacle Studio problems with Blue Screens of Death (thankfully this was resolved when I turned off hardware acceleration)

At the web and server end of the blog, there’s a lot of discussion about CSS styles (removing unused styles), convert2maildir (mbox to maildir) and mytop. Outlook Error codes seem to be one of the biggest hitters still as people suffer so many problems, personally I’ve switched to Thunderbird and wouldn’t switch back - the only problem is the lack of syncing ability in Thunderbird.

The interesting and often laughable keywords that have brought people here are “does keiron love”, “early daze, Swindon” (they’re actually quite good), and “hospitals are sued by 7 foot doctors”.

Interestingly the BlogRush widget has delivered 11 visits (it’s only been installed for one month), and they stay on the site for just 17 seconds (that’s far lower than the site average of 1 min 25 seconds, and very few of them visit more than the page they land on! Not sure whether I’ll be keeping BlogRush going forward based on that.

Another interesting couple of months at skillett.com!

March Search Roundup!

by Keiron on March 29, 2007

What have people been looking up to find me this month I wonder, a quick glance at the stats reveals it’s been a pretty quiet month - with the biggest amount of visitors being the “bots” with Yahoo visiting nearly 3,000 times so far this month almost double it’s competitor MSN with only 1,600! Google still isn’t showing me the love at 797 and I may consider a change of theme soon to see if that helps.

So, how did people come to me from the search engines this month:

  • Skillett
Well it’s my name, and the domain name - no real surprises there! Or are they really looking for Skillet, a Christian rock band from Memphis?
  • 01772 208600
That old chestnut, yep - Blue Bamboo are still cold calling! Oddly enough they’ve not called me, but Communications Direct tried yesterday - I was typically most unhelpful!
  • Top Gear Finished
Clarkson says it is, the BBC say it isn’t - is this how we do contract negotiation these days?
  • Chris Moyles
I loved the book and obviously his fans are finding me! If you don’t have a copy yet, go and buy it - NOW - in act click the link in the review and the nice people at amazon will leave a shiny new copy on your doorstep
  • Keiron Moyles
You probably mean Kieron Moyles, Chris’s older brother who works as a radio plugger just round the corner from Radio 1. It certainly ain’t me!
  • Reggae Reggae Sauce
Still not tried this yet, but by all account Levi Roots is going from strength to strength with is reggae, reggae sauce! Also his song has been searched for several time “Proper Tings”.
  • Leicester City Jokes
Hmmmmmmmm, Not sure what page they’re finding with that!!!
  • Saving Youtube Videos
People still want to save YouTube videos of a geek dancing to Barbie Girl, or the Guy on ski’s travelling down a London Underground escalator it seems!
  • error code 800ccca0
This is an NNTP_RESPONSE_ERROR, meaning your newsgroup server has failed to respond correctly (and why should it I hear you ask!)
  • freevents x53
Still going strong! The Philips Freevents X53 in fact I’m writing this on it right now! The touchpad has discoloured a little - mainly due to overuse I think!!!

That concludes our interest for this month! Maybe I ought to try this with all my sites and see what people are really interested in?!

Tammy NYP, Who the hell is she?

by Keiron on February 17, 2007

Just taken a wander around Technorati, “Tammy NYP” is the top search term. Now how does something like that become the top search term ahead of Britney Spears (who has incidentally shaved her head?!) and MySpace?

According to the Hollyweird Gazette she is an ex-cheerleader and technology student at Singapore’s Nanyang Polytechnic (as per NYP).

She apparently fell victim to a phone thief, after which her mobile videos of her performing various sex acts were broadcast around the internet.

There is a blog, which people suggest belongs to her (and the girl featured does appear to be a cheerleader), however her blog shows little that would suggest this as she celebrates Chinese New Year this weekend…. What the hell - she’s obviously famous!?!?

Long Time No See

by Keiron on December 8, 2006

I haven’t written a blog post for ages, or at least it seems like ages… The stats report it was sometime in October, all before birthdays and holidays! Looks like I’ve got some catching up to do!

Actually I can’t be bothered to catch up, it takes way too long - I think I’ll just resign myself to playing with this blog at least weekly going forward (if not daily!). How does that sound?

Google!
I’ve been doing some extensive work to get unbanned from Google. The previous blog that was here was badly configured and got spammed beyond comprehension (mainly with obscenities) and lead (I believe) to me being banned. I have since then tidied it up, locked off comments (I may bring them back with a captcha) and added some fairly hefty .htaccess rewrite rules, to rid myself of the aformentioned spammers (who still deliver many thousands of visitors a month - not the sort of people I want frequenting my little online territory thank you very much!). Hopefully Google will be happy with this and welcome me back with open arms!

Wordpress
The template for this blog, I really do dislike it, it’s clean and has adsense on it, but it’s not great by any stretch of the imagination “great”. I shall look around for something new and a bit cleaner!

Search Roundup
I thought I best do a bit of a search roundup whilst I’m here! What did my fellow online searchers find me for in November? Well it was a mixed bag again.

“Freevents x53″ - I’m still fairly popular on this front, has nobody else bough this fantastic little dual core laptop? The Freevents x53 (or Phillips x53) is a joy to own and does not have a pyrotechnic battery meaning I can use it on flights… Excellent!

“Your country needs you” - I’ve never recruited anybody?!

“Zenidine Zidane” - Wow, that’s impressive if I’ve been ranked for that!

“Eclipse Internet Probles” - We rarely have any problems with Eclipe, in fact so few that you will always see me recommending them!

“800ccc69″ - That Outlook error codes page is popular!

“Leicester City FC” - Not that I ever get home to see them anymore, but it’s nice to know I’m remembered for it!

Right, onward I go - as I’ve got stuff to do today!

Red Blooded Males!

by Keiron on October 18, 2006

I trundled off to Technorati this morning to check whether some of my posts had been indexed there yet, it appears not. However some more amusing things were to be found when I searched for things I’d blogged about recently. The Philips X53 yielded just my blog (and old posts at that - not even yesterdays!).

But a search for “red-blooded males” which I blogged last night was far more interesting!

Jeff is concerned about the number of friend requests he gets in a day from twenty-something year old girls (isn’t he the lucky one), but to be fair I can see his point! Although girls that like to make friends by taking their clothes off raises some interesting ideas!! He’s 40 and these contacts are either just flaunting themselves or are just spoof attempts to get you to join porn sites!

Dan on the other has sussed that half the of the UK’s population are male, and as Males love Females - he’s changed his photo to Female for 24 hours to make more friends! He assures us he is NOT Female!

I loved the story about Eric Engledew on Phillip Howell’s blog, discussing how The Mirror were complaining about BOAC’s “immoral” tour offering, only to find Eric’s daughter near naked on the centre spread! Classic! His daughter Kate has obviously done more modelling work that has raised more than an eyebrow - check out why on Phillip’s blog. Eric Engledew died recently, but reading Philip’s dedication to him, I get the feeling I would have quite liked the guy!

Vic Voyeur is an interesting character. He states that his blog is for over 18’s only, as he wants to swear and post pictures of naked people. It appears these people would fit in with Jeff’s problem of the naked girls wanting to be his friend! Here he discusses his personal brief (and thankfully condensed - without pictures) history of internet porn!

Shortie’s on a full scale investigation into friendships between hetrosexual men and women, that looks quite interesting, but I don’t think I have the brain power to go through it. I’ve got male and female friends, and would always have said that I was closer to female friends than male friends - I guess that’s true of most people. I appear to have got closer to the boys since the whole testicular cancer thing, it’s kind of a bonding process maybe - if you can talk about that with someone, you can talk about just about anything!

Adi Singh doesn’t have a digital camera and is a bit miffed about it I reckon. That’s about it!

Australian Politician Mark Latham appears to have got J-Seid’s back up with his comments in his new book:
Plain speaking Australian politician Mark Latham ridiculed contemporary Australian male culture this week, complaining beer swilling macho men of old have been emasculated by feminists and neo-conservatives.

“Australian mates and good blokes have been replaced by nervous wrecks, metrosexual knobs and tossbags,” the former opposition leader declared in his new book of political philosophy ‘A Conga Line of Suckholes’, “It’s the revenge of the nerds.”

J-Seid has written an open letter in response that explains the psyche of Aussie males?! I think!??!?

And we round up with Lou, back in the UK, who had an interesting couple of days in Greenwich - Dorm party’s, traffic cones, and the girls decided to pole dance. The two red-blooded males (NOT!!!!!) continued to cook eggs! Very odd and not particularly red-blooded at all.

So that concludes our round up of red blooded males in the Technorati blogging world. A merry bunch (or at least some of them were!!).

Search Engine Roundup!

by Keiron on October 15, 2006

I find it somewhat concerning what people come to this website looking for!!

I’ve not done a search round up for a while - so thought I’d take a spin through my logs and see what the most popular search terms coming in to Skillett.com are!

For the perverse among you!
Worryingly in August and September the word of the month was ‘sucking‘ closely followed by ‘pants shit‘, and “bull shit”. I daren’t even go looking deeper into the logs to find out what caused people to find this site based on those terms!

On the Techie Front
September was popular for such search search terms as the history of linux and information on the xda3nbftool (used for upgrading XDA’s to WM5), and how to change the WM5 boot screen! There also seems to be a few outlook users suffering with error code 800ccca2!

The charmin advert has also proved popular! Along with a fact I didn’t even know “the king of hearts is the only king without a moustache” - that must appear somewhere on skillett.com along with some “pub tricks”

I shall have to investigate the randomness of what you guys are searching for more often!!

Search Roundup: Margaret Thatcher & Mr Whippy

by Keiron on August 10, 2005

Not sure where this one came from!?!?!!?

Margaret Thatcher invented Mr. Whippy ice cream while studying chemistry at Oxford University.

To the best of my knowledge and research it isn’t true - but if anyone can correct me, please let me know?!?!?!?
