Coltrane Here We Come…. WordPress 2.7

I’m incredibly lucky to have WPAU on my blog which has made the upgrade to WordPress 2.7 (Coltrane) relatively painless.. The Great Dictator divx This is probably the most talked about release in the WordPress history, with blog after blog discussing it. So here goes: Logging in WordPress I see the familiar: WordPress 2.7 is available! Please update now. Luckily because of WPAU I also see…. Click Here to Automatically Upgrade WordPress to latest Version. Clicking the Auto Upgrade, I do the usual things: Fill in my FTP details Backup files Backup Database (all my tables – why is there not a check all option in WPAU?) Fetch the latest version. Impressed with Orange (for a change)

I’d almost bordered on getting rid of my Orange contract recently, and moving over to either T-Mobile (for their data plans) or O2 (for the iPhone obviously!), but they’ve surprised me in the last 24 hours and I may well stay with them. Yesterday for some unknown reason the main keypad on my SPV M700 (O2 XDA IIs, HTC Trinity, HTC P3600 whichever you want to call it!) just stopped working. I promptly rang Orange and asked the all important question….. No, it wasn’t will they replace it, it was: “When are you going to release the HTC Diamond?” I’d noticed it on their website as “Coming Soon” and already knew it was a phone I wanted. The very helpful… Continue reading »

Upgrade to WordPress 2.3 and Tag Support

I’ve held off from this for a while but I’ve got a few blogs I need to do it with so I’m writing this guide more for myself than anything. Install the “Maintenance Mode” plugin – it really is quite good, activate it and put the blog into maintenance mode. As my database is probably quite large I’m not going to use PHPMyAdmin to back it up, I shall use ssh.mysqldump –add-drop-table -h mysqlhostserver -u mysqlusername -p databasename And then entering my MySQL password, I was correct my database is almost 13MB. WordPress always recommend you deactivate plugins, as they may not be compatible after the upgrade. I’ve never done this for a single upgrade, but it appears there is… Continue reading »

Neomail and mbox -> maildir

As far as webmail goes, I’m a Neomail user, have been for a long while. I don’t know what it is about it – it’s clean interface and quick loading speed maybe? But the time has come for change as cPanel are deprecating the mbox format, why I hear you ask? Reasons for Deprecating mbox The new system has several benefits, – It’s the way forward – Better performance – Improved mailbox locking; – Simultaneous IMAP account access – Use of open source code. Is it Necessary? It is expected that cPanel will continue to support mbox, but will switch to maildir as the default soon. As such I feel I’m probably going to have to take the plunge. We… Continue reading »
