3 Spam Comments!

I normally login to my admin site to find “Spam: 3,472” comments (or some such other high and random number!!). Confession time. I broke my blog last week whilst doing an upgrade (trying to auto-upgrade post suPHP being activated may have been a mistake) and it forced me to audit my plugins. I’ve always like the idea of Akismet, group filtering etc. However I spotted some of the comments over at the WP-SpamFree plugin page and decided I’d got nothing to lose (other than a lot of time wasted looking at comment spam! Installed earlier in the week and 3 days later I have JUST 3 Spam comments… Elizabeth: The Golden Age psp I’m a happy man – Matt you… Continue reading »

Reading Material

I like a good book as much as the next man, in fact sometimes more so – Emma nearly shot me on holiday when I was reading just over a book per day! – Thank goodness for our resort in the Dominican Republic’s extensive library! buy The Ant Bully photo credit: stephenrwalli The problem is I like a lot of the action ones (mostly be a few authors), and sometimes I get to the point where I forget what I’ve read. This can be a real pain the backside when I go to see “Book Man”. “Book Man” is a chap at a local market who runs a book stall, he’s fantastic and we always pay him a visit before… Continue reading »

OpenID with your own WordPress URL!

I went to post a comment on a website today, it was a Blogger one (I always dread this – it’s just not as easy as commenting on a WordPress blog is it?). This particular user had chose to allow comments from: Registered Google Accounts OpenID users I usually just select the anonymous option and fill in the form, like I would a WordPress form – that was a non-starter. I don’t want a WordPress hosted WordPress blog, so I need to do something else… I want my own OpenID! Then I found eric’s post on Using your own WordPress URL as an OpenID! A quick download and activation of the OpenID Delegate WordPress Plugin, an account created with myOpenID… Continue reading »

Showing some Luv!

I’ve installed CommentLuv here today, to reward my comment authors more (particularly now the comment policy is in force and I feel perfectly happy about blowing away any comments that are spammy or I don’t like! 😉 ) We all love comments, but CommentLuv takes this one step further and places a direct link to the comment authors latest post – underneath the comment. They promote both their site (using the URL field of the comment), and their latest post – now that is quite a reward for engaging with you! It will automatically fetch your latest post from your feed to display it and in the latest version the comment author can specify their feed by putting their feed… Continue reading »

Success!! A Flickr -> WordPress Photo Plugin! Photo Dropper!

photo credit: ¥§•ªˆ¨ˇ© LOVE © ˇ¨ˆª•§¥ A while back Michael Gray posted some suggestions about how to improve the Yahoo Shortcuts WordPress Plugin, I’ve been posting about some tools I liked for getting Flickr images into WordPress – and how I’d love a plugin to do this (and discussing it with Anne). I was overjoyed today to see a post by Michael about Photo Dropper. This plugin does exactly what I need I think! I would make a few minor improvements – but they are few and far between. The image at the top was inserted via a quik search for “celebration”. And just because I can, let’s have a picture of a hamster! photo credit: annia316 ღ

Using Photo’s in WordPress Posts – Plugin Required?

Photo by jimmyroq My blog posts used to look a little boring, or at least in some people’s eyes – in my eyes they were a thing of glory, a product of my creativity, a……. bunch of text in web browser I guess! I needed some pictures to illustrate the posts, and I wasn’t about to (in the previous post) rush out and buy a hamster just for a blog post! Then I read a post over at SkellieWag, about using Flickr images licensed under the Creative Commons license to find great images to illustrate my posts. Check it out before going any further as it will make a great deal more sense if you do… I started out with… Continue reading »
