Hug Your RSS!

I like RSS, in fact my Google Reader is probably one of the most used bookmarks in the history of my machine! So following on from a post over at Shankri-La, I’ve submitted to RSSHugger, and as I’ll probably end up talking about it a bit more in future it seemed as good a time as any to make a post about it here and get my blog listed for free (otherwise it’s $20). I’ll keep you “posted”, as to how it’s going in coming weeks!

Traffic & Passion (What a Combination!)

It’s what every blogger wants isn’t it? Until it gets too much, brings your server down, or even worse that of your host, or your site gets suspended for using too many resources (the Slashdot or Digg effect!). Knowing who you are writing for is half the battle, the other half is writing because you enjoy it!

Is there anyone out there?

I Don’t Read Any Blogs Posts!

I just star posts, or so it seems with Google Reader! I’ve got tonnes of stuff starred – 208  items to be precise, with another 328 unread! When, I ask you… When am I going to go back and find time to read all those amazing things I’ve thought “I’ll blog about that”, or “I must read that properly later”? I’ve taken a look at my trends, I do so enjoy statistics! In the last 30 days the primary candidates for publishing good content that I want to read again appear to be LifeHacker and my Bumpzee Community (I also have a view people waiting to get into that community – I really must review their sites now I’m keeping… Continue reading »

Bump, Bump, BumpZee!!

I reported back in August that I would try to blog more since getting married, however life seems to have run away with me as I get some serious automation sorted for the business – with some funky little PHP scripts! But I haven’t forgotten this blog! I’ve been plugging away in my spare time at a new WordPress theme – regular readers will know I’ve changed the theme of this blog more times than….. Well a few times anyway!! I plan to finish it sometime before Christmas – I know that sounds like a long way off for some of you, but my life seems so busy at the minute that I don’t seem to have five minutes to… Continue reading »

PageRank, PageRank, and…. PageRank

That’s all my Google Reader seems to be full of this week, those whinging about it, those whining about it and a few happy souls who are pleased to be getting some recognition! I’m honestly not sure how much value I place on Google’s PageRank these days – it’s a nice (or not so nice) little number, that I occasionally look at – but I’d be happier with a few more comments and a bit more interaction with my readers if truth be known. But I’ll comment anyway… Joyce Babu has provided a wide selection of tools that you can use to check your current PR and possible future PR. I’ve had a quick play with the tools and it… Continue reading »

Giving up the day Job?

To become a blogger? I’d love to! Sit at home all day and blog, blog, blog! I do read problogger.net occasionally but more often than not don’t find the time! So when Bes posted “What is a professional Blogger?” I was intrigued! I’d classify pro-blogging as earning enough to give up the day job, as in I can do it as a profession – but Bes puts some interesting spins on that, Traffic If it’s based on traffic I don’t stand a chance, I haven’t got a clue how many people read my rantings, but it’s not many! RSS Subscribers I think I’ve got a few when I look at my stats, but I’m not really sure – is there… Continue reading »

Is Friends Reunited Losing Money?

They must be! I didn’t renew my Friends Reunited membership, like I suspect an awful lot of people.. Why? Read on to find out… A Bit of History Friends Reunited was a phenomenon, a real home-grown internet success story and everyone loved it, grown out of a card-index in a back bedroom to become a multi-million pound business. There was the usual elements of bullying and trouble – but lets face it, it was just like being back in the school playground! Back in 2005 Friends Reunited was bought by ITV, a somewhat odd transaction in many peoples minds. The deal at the time was £175m (£120m + £55m in bonuses) for the four year old site that was expected… Continue reading »
