Laptops, Express Cards, Philips and other technical Gumphh!

Right, I’ve been debating this laptop for weeks now.. Most people know my deliberations on it… I want something small (that’s the first time I’ve ever said that in almost any context!), but functional. I’ve got to be able to run the business from it. But still be able to throw it into a small bag and walk out the door. My current Laptop (an Aspire 3610) is fantastic and used as my main machine day in, day out. But after the recent security scares I found it pushed the very limits of hand luggage!! So, I like the Sony Vaio (doesn’t everybody!?!?), I don’t like the price tag. The iQon from Tesco is nice, but never heard of the… Continue reading »

Netgear SC101 Review

In a previous post I was considering Network Storage – well I’ve bitten the bullett and here is the review of it! The Netgear SC101 is a fantastic piece of kit…. After my initial cock-up ordering a SATA drive instead of an IDE, I now have the toaster (or pig whichever you think it looks more like!!!) installed, up and running!! Within five minutes of slotting the drive in, I was partitioning the drive from my laptop. The Netgear SC101 will take two hard drives at the same time, and… Continue reading »

Network Storage and Disks

I’m concerned about the storage space I have available for the following reasons: a) I only have so much space on my laptop. b) I don’t want to leave the main machine booted all the while c) I don’t want a USB hard drive – as it’s another thing hanging out of the back of my laptop everytime I want to use it. d) I need efficient backup space for my MP3’s (could we consolidate our iTunes collection on such a device?) and my digital photos and video. So, I’ve been looking at storage solutions, I’m quite taken with the idea of an ethernet hard drive, and the best way of doing this seems to be the SC101 from Netgear…. Continue reading »

New Scanner – And it works on it’s side!!!

I recently bought the Canon LIDE 20… Actually to tell the truth I got back off holiday and wanted to send the photos to family and my old scanner is over 7 years old – so I decided the business could afford to buy a new one! Both Dabs and Amazon are both selling it with Amazon offering free shipping! My favourite features on it so far are the multiscan (putting multiple photos on it at once and it will scan them in as seperate images!!) and the fact you can stand it on it’s side (using the stand that comes with it) and even use it like that – resulting in very little storage space!!! Beats the pants off… Continue reading »
