Now that’s one Smart Bird!

I loved this story on the BBC today, a stray parrot has talked his way home! Yosuke, a red-tailed African Grey parrot was captured after sitting on a woman’s backyard fence near Tokyo. Once captured it began singing popular children’s songs before starting to repeat it’s name and address!! Apparently it’s believed African Grey’s have the cognitive ability of six-year-olds… I’d love to see how he’d get on with a first day at school!!

Talking Parrot! With a sense of humour?

A captive African grey called N’kisi, has a vocabulary of 950 words, and shows signs of a sense of humour – it’s more than can be said for some of the people I meet!! N’kisi is believed to be one of the most advanced users of human language in the animal world. He uses words in context, with past, present and future tenses, and is often inventive. One N’kisi-ism was “flied” for “flew”, and another “pretty smell medicine” to describe the aromatherapy oils used by his owner, an artist based in New York.
