Setting up a Windows computer the easy way! Ninite

I say the easy way, is there any such thing where computers are concerned? Murphy’s Law generally applies! However I have found something that does make it easier…

Oh so quiet!

I realise it’s been quiet here again for some time (at least on the writing front)– I’ve not had much to write about…. I’ve been super busy getting myself all sorted out! The hosting business is about to become a limited company, I’ve gone part time at work, I’ve demolished my Mum’s garden and somewhere in the midst of that I’ve found time to book a holiday! I’ve got a busy couple of weeks until we’re away so don’t expect too much (see what I’m doing, apologising before I don’t post!) until my accounts are out of the way – I’m automating lots more this year to try to stay on top of them (he says very hopefully!). The automation… Continue reading »

I hate doing the Accounts

This is my biggest bugbear about running a business, I love the business I’m in. When a customer thanks you for a job well done and that entire business is down to you it’s a pretty good feeling. It has it’s negative points, but the accounts are the biggest (I even don’t mind that it interrupts holidays and stuff!), it’s definitely the accounts I don’t like. In case you hadn’t gathered already I hate doing my accounts I have an accountant, and she’s great – keeps me on the straight and narrow and tells me what I can and can’t do, but it’s the physically getting all the transactions and invoices from everywhere into the accounting software that I hate…. Continue reading »

Getting Back on the Horse!

No – I don’t ride, but getting back on the horse is still a tough thing to do when you’ve taken a knock, whatever the circumstances…. I’ve had a fairly tough year this year to date (some of which you’ll have heard about back in February), but I’m picking myself up again slowly, I’ve been back at work for a while now (with the assistance of my doctors and a few tablets on the way!). My panic seems to be keeping tabs on itself, and the stress levels are OK-ish so long as nobody rocks the boat (believe me, generally somebody rocks the boat at least once per day!!). I have no energy for some things, and a massive renewed… Continue reading »

Automation – Making your life Easier, 600 steps at a time!

Those that know me, know that I’m a programmer (amongst other things!), and I love automation, I have this vast frustration when people are repeating the same manual steps hundreds and hundreds of times. Bloggers tend to “get” the whole process of automation, they’re used to having plugins that go away and do all their bidding for them, eBayers have started getting into this with bid sniping tools that bid frantically in the dying seconds of their auction. I’ve done a couple of pieces of work over the years automating fetching content from websites and displaying it in a different format or fetching it and providing a large amount of mathematical calculations, recently these jobs have centred around gamblings sites… Continue reading »
