147 equals a sports car!

I’m a bit of a snooker fan, always have been – just don’t get time to watch it so much now… But the bit I’ve watched today, all 9 minutes of it was some of the best snooker ever played… Just watch Ronnie O’Sullivan earn himself his brand new sports car clearing up a maximum break in sub 10 minutes! photo credit: DubaiFM

Hamster, Hamster, Hamster

— Photo by JesseBarker – (?) It just doesn’t have the same ring to it as Badger, Badger, Badger does it? However, these cute little fella’s have become the most sought after pet in China since the Year of the Rat started on 7th February! Prices of have tripled for hamsters to around 30 yuan (£2.10). The hamster is clearly the acceptable cousin of the “black sheep” of the family the rat! Apparently interest in Chinchillas and Squirrels is also on the increase! Also on the increase is an army of young children with holes in their fingers!!!

Burning the 5am Oil or Petrol – Car Fire!

I like sleep just as much as the next man, in fact I probably like it more than him – I’m not greedy though – I get up on time, rarely use the snooze button – but this morning took the biscuit. I have a vague (very vague) recollection of hearing a bang in my sleep, it did register (the fact that I considered it might be a gunshot also registered, but didn’t motivate me to do anything about it!). The next thing I heard was “THUD – THUD – THUD”, I looked at Emma and asked whether that was our front door. She jumped out of bed and to the window (a bit energetic at stupid o’clock for my… Continue reading »

Want a home just like Ikea?

I’m not sure Mark Malkoff had really thought about it when he decided to move into Ikea for a week. Mark is the man who visited 171 Starbacks in Manhatten, so it should come as no surprise to anyone that he’s moved into the furniture (and random things normally!) store whilst his flat is renovated! When not living in Ikea or topping up on caffeine Mark is the audience coordinator for Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report. Check out what Mark has been upto on his videos here: http://www.marklivesinikea.com/ (Thanks to Deborah for pointing this out!)

Paddington is Under Investigation!

In a new book to commemorate Paddington Bear’s 50th birthday (he doesn’t look a day over 21 in my opinion!) entitled “Paddington Here and Now”, Paddington will be questioned by the UK Immigration authorities! Michael Bond, 83, the author of the Paddington books says: “Although the world has changed considerably over the past 30 years, he remains exactly the same – eternally optimistic and ever open to what life has to offer. As Paddington was hidden in a lifeboat aboard a ship in Peru by Aunt Lucy when she went to live in the Home for Retired Bears in Lima he is officially a stowaway, and should rightfully be questioned about his immigration status! I look forward to reading this!

“I fought the Lloyds”

I didn’t actually, but it appears Oystar might have done. They’ve written a classic protest song about claiming money back from banks. A cause championed by Martin Lewis at MoneySavingExpert.com, which lead him to feature in the video for “I fought the Lloyds”, even if you aren’t reclaiming your charges it’s a laugh! You can help get this to Number 1 for just 50p by visiting the Bank Charges Song information page!

Grimy, Impractical and Grotesque – St Pancras

No, it’s not my description of some random TV program I watched last night, it’s the general opinion of most people on the old St Pancras station in London. I’ve spent a fair amount of time in this station over the years, travelling down from London to Leicester for computing shows as a teenager and whilst at University, before later coming to travel through it to Leicester on my way home from Sunny Swindon. It’s cold, unwelcoming but I’ll be honest I loved that station. I know most people are sorry it didn’t get bombed during the 2nd World War, but I’ll kind of miss it (and the birds flapping in the rafters), An architectural journalist (who later became poet… Continue reading »
