A WWW Collaboration System
Keiron Skillett, BEng Project 2000

Summary

The Internet rush of the last couple of years has left us finding new ways to work, ways which have no geographical boundaries and where you may never even meet a colleague you have worked with for years.

The aim of this project was to create a World Wide Web Collaboration System, which will allow users from all over the world to work easily as a team, sharing data such as contacts, meeting and files.

This project has been undertaken completely in Java (unlike the traditional method of HTML and CGI scripting), because Java is a very new and fast moving language which will allows the system to be interactive with the user. Also Java is machine independent (allowing users of different computer systems to all access the same database).

With a little more time to rectify the problems with the system (section 4.2) and possibly the inclusion of some of the further extensions discussed in section 4.3, this system could be fully operational and offer a solution to the many problems encountered when teams collaborate on the Internet.
