I recently found my first grey hair. I quick footed it to the Hairdresser’s couch to show her my new ailment. It’s a blond hair she scoffed, checking my birth cert and medical history.

Phew! I said to myself. But them a few more “blond” hairs appeared.

I made another appointment. She hmmed and hawed then came to the conclusion that as the “blond” was localized to one circular area at the front of my head that I must have received a sharp bump tot he head.

Phew! I said to myself. That makes sense. I’m terribly clumsy and could easily have given my self a near concussion without realizing it.

Then the “blond/grey” area expanded to other parts of my scalp and I finally worked up the nerve last weekend to take a family history. My mother sighed and nodded at me from across the table. “As yes” she sighed knowingly “i got my first grey hairs at 26 too”.

What I want to know, after spending a small fortune in the hairdressers getting an erroneous diagnosis, is why this wasn’t disclosed to me at an earlier age. I could have pre-empted the turn. I could have went neon blonde and argued that it was just the peroxide.

Life’s a bitch.
