Google Blind: Page Peeling Script

by Keiron on July 16, 2008

I need to have a play with this at some point as these ads occasionally actually catch my eye… Unlike Google Adsense which I seem these days to have a strange awareness about and actually manage to not see!

Aaron at Full Tilt Blogging pointed it out, the Page Peel script!

Outsourcing - is it bad when you have a little Knowledge?

by Keiron on June 11, 2008

I’ve just posted a job online with RentACoder for a domain name I’ve had sitting around for the last couple of years. I have the content (two affiliate feeds) and want someone to design a website with a backend facility that allows me to import them (and update the content when the feed changes), not rocket science - probably one to two days work if I had time.

The problem is I don’t have time at the minute! But ultimately it comes down to what are two days of my time really worth I guess. I hadn’t really considered it until the bids started coming in….

  • The first one was $200, I’d probably accept that to get the site done without me having to do it and up and running where it might just make some money.
But I’ve been burnt on RentACoder before taking a low price and not getting what I wanted so I’ll work through some full-on requirements with the developer and make sure they understand what I want.
  • The upper one (so far) is $2,000 (I have told them they’re having a laugh and they’ve reduced it to $1,400).

Their are a lot of comments with no bids, detailing portfolios and the like, some have made some quite attractive sites but it’s clear their comments are a cut and paste to attract my attention before they really look at the job I’ve asked for a quote on. So I’ve duly replied to them all and asked those that have read the quote how well they understand it (for many English is not their first language) or for others to read it and provide a quote!

My Questions

  • Is a little knowledge a dangerous thing?
  • Knowing I could do this myself and how long it might take without all the little niggles and misunderstandings, has that influenced a price in my head?
  • Are other people getting absolutely ripped off putting jobs on there?

New Bored Surfing Members - 25/05/08

by Keiron on May 25, 2008

Finally after all those posts about the current members, I can add some posts about those pending review to join this little community!

First up, it’s one of my own blogs! Full-Time-Blogger.com has become one of my interests, I’d love to be able to be a full time blogger, I can’t see it happening mind - my latest topic over there involves a challenge to Amanda, a Virtual Assistant to prove whether I really need her help!

Next we have Musings from Ancient Greece, a travellers journal through ancient Greece - the most recent entry is about the Mycenae Museum.

The Graphic Design & Web Design Forum Blog, are currently showing off painted keyboards!

Kirsten @ KirstenL4W has just moved house by the looks of things, and maybe, just maybe she’ll get time to post soon!

Amazing Facts, are reporting on the break up of Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo (whoever he might be!?!?)

And that brings the current community all together. Why don’t you join today, and get included in the next round up of new members?

Bored Surfing Members 1/3

by Keiron on May 19, 2008

Several months ago I created a group on Bumpzee, to give me something new to read when I was having a bored surfing moment, it got a few new members and I quite regularly read it’s feed - as do a number of other members.

WE HAVE INTERNET

However I’ve been a bit busy recently, what with moving house, decorating and the like, so new additions haven’t been approved. I plan to rectify that in the coming weeks and allow a few more into the community.

However be warned my pro-active approach also means that anything I don’t find particularly interesting may be removed as well - current members you have been warned! I’m also going to remove those that haven’t posted recently (I think 2 months is probably fair?)

Here is a bit about the first five blogs and their most recent posts.

If you want to check out more members blogs before they get posted here then take a look over here, more to be posted soon - so why not subscribe to our feed?
